How to Play

Objective: Be the first to build a 25-point Dashboard.

The Setup

To begin, separate the Team Wapuu cards and place them in the Contributor Lounge. Shuffle the remaining deck and deal 5 cards to each player’s hand.

Each player may also choose one (1) Team Wapuu to place in their Dashboard. This gives each player 2 points to start the game.

Place the deck in the center and leave room for a Discard pile.

👉 The player with the most recently created WordPress.org profile goes first — go ahead, look up the dates! (If no one has a .org profile, youngest player goes first.) Play moves to the left.

Playing the Game

Each turn has 4 phases.

Beginning of Turn

Trigger any effects that activate at the start of your turn.

Download Phase

Draw 1 card from the deck into your hand.

Deploy Phase

You may do one of the following:

Play 1 card from your hand OR
Draw 1 extra card

End of Turn

If you have more than the allowed number cards in your hand, discard until you’re at the limit (default 7).

Winning the Game

Be the first to reach the target point value on your Dashboard using Wapuu and Plugin cards. Malware and other card types don’t count toward your total, unless otherwise specified. You can win at any time, even if it is not your turn.

If the deck runs out before a winner is crowned, the person with the highest total points wins. If there is a tie, the person with the lowest number of Wapuu cards wins. If there’s still a tie, then just be friends and accept that you’re both awesome!

Types of Cards

Team Wapuu

Start in the Contributor Lounge. Special helpers with unique powers.

Default Wapuu

These are the core of your Dashboard (no abilities, but score points).

Legendary Wapuu

Rare and powerful cards with special effects when deployed.

Interrupt

Stop opponents from taking action immediately. Use and discard.

Plugin

Useful add-ons that enhance your Dashboard or gameplay.

Malware

Nasty cards you give to other players. They sabotage their Dashboard.

Function

Instant-use cards with clever effects. Use and discard.

A reference guide for each player.

Important Terms

Here are some key terms you'll need to know.

Retire

Remove a card from your Dashboard to the discard pile.

Terminate

Force another player to move a card from their Dashboard to the discard pile.

Acquire

Take a card from an opponent’s Dashboard or hand into your Dashboard or hand, depending on the action instructions.

Point Card

Some effects cause you to draw a point card from the top of the deck (used to determine random outcomes).

Discard

Placing a card from any location (Dashboard, gameplay area, or hand) into the Discard pile.
